EOS stands for Electro Optical Systems. EOS is the Digital SLR camera system which was introduced more than 2 decades before (1987) but gained huge popularity due to entry level DSLR cameras for beginner photographers.
There are four main types of DSLR camera’s introduced by Canon since 1987. Most of the Entry level type is launched in late 2008 onwards.
- Entry-level /consumer oriented DSLR camera at much cheaper price. The series always start with 3 to 4 digit series number (EOS 350D, EOS 300X, EOS 1000D and etc)
- Advanced amateur /midrange: Much more expensive than entry level cameras and focus on day to day digital photography (EOS 33V, EOS 40D – they have 2 digits only as their series identifier)
- High-end (example include EOS 3, EOS 5)
- Professional Types: Full Frame Digital SLR, fast performance, 100 % viewfinder. Â Model number always start and contain only one digit (such as EOS-1D and EOS-1V)
Canon EOS High End, Professional and most of the advance types can only be purchased from Canon outlets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The main showroom for Canon is located in Indigo Central Building 6, Sheikh Zayed Road (canon service center as well – require citation).

The price for Canon EOS cameras in Dubai and UAE also depends on which type of EOS cameras a customer wants to purchase depending on his needs. Entry level – consumer oriented DLSR EOS cameras range from 2,500 AED to 4,000 AED while Advanced type stands at the range of 5,500 AED to 9,000 AED.
