Do’s and Don’ts: A western woman tourist in Dubai

Monday, May 18th, 2015

Dubai is a beautiful place but like anywhere else there are traditions and cultural values that one has to respect irregardless of the country the individual (either guy or girl) is from. Some of the quick tips on your hand are listed below

  1. Do not wear too much revealing clothes in public places such as markets (souqs), shopping malls or restaurants. Places where sexy chic clothes are no big deal are nightclubs and popular chill out lounges only
  2. You can wear bikini and beach wear on beaches or swimming pools
  3. Do not swim during the night time @ the beach
  4. Do not ask strangers for a car lift, always call a taxi which operates 24 hours 7 days a week
  5. If you feel that someone is harassing you then always pick up a phone and ring the cops, here cops are going to be helpful then your own friends
  6. Respect culture and manners in public places
  7. Drinking or in intoxicated condition do not travel / walk on the streets as this is not considered wise as well as might offend the locals
  8. Keep the mobile phone and Dubai metro card always handy, you will need it to report or ask for assistance from help operators
  9. You do not need to wear headscarf in all the places in Dubai. The only place where you should be wearing headscarf is mosques and religious sites. Most of the times, there will be “information booth / board” that will clearly state what to wear in that vicinity
  10. If the month of Ramadan is going on then make sure that you do not eat, drink or smoke in public places from morning till early evening (ask the local guide for more information on the timings of fasting)
  11. The overall dresscode for United Arab Emirates and Dubai for any tourist / expatriate woman is regular western clothes i.e: skirts, jeans, tops, trousers etc. You can also wear the Arabic traditional dress of Dubai which is Abaya if you fancy it as there is no harm in doing so, however, people might take you for an Arab and might start a conversation in Arabic
  12. Ideal dresscode is something like clothes covering tops of the arms / shoulders as well as legs. Also underwear should not be visible in any dress you’re wearing

Saying all that, here are couple of youtube clips where western girls are having time of their lives in Dubai and United Arab Emirates

ONLY IN DUBAI – Visit dentist in chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce

Friday, May 15th, 2015

Yup this is true, though a marketing stunt but only acceptable in hip places like in Dubai you can book an appointment with the dentist and these guys will send Rolls Royce to pick you up from anywhere in Dubai. As per the business owners, most of their clientele come from outside of the emirates so sending a luxury Rolls Ryoce will surely cheer you up from the airport all the way to your dentist,
